Country’s largest public sector bank, the State Bank of India (SBI) has warned customers against cyber criminals targeting them on WhatsApp. In a post on its official Twitter account, the nation’s largest lender has shared details about the scam. Here’s all you need to know

1. Cybercriminals targeting bank customers via WhatsApp

In the post, SBI warns that cyber criminals are approaching customers via WhatApp calls and messages.

2. Customers should avoid answering any WhatsApp calls or respond to WhatsApp messages from unknown numbers.3. Customers are lured in on the pretext of winning lottery and free gifts

Fraudsters calling via WhatsApp try to entice customers by telling them that they have won a lottery or some prize. 4. Customers on calling these numbers are asked to share their account and other confidential details

Cybercriminals tell them that sharing these details are mandatory to receive the award money. And that the money will be transferred to this account.

5. SBI clarifies that it is not running/organising any lottery scheme

SBI clearly informs its customers that it is not running or organising any lottery scheme or lucky draw for customers. Nor there are any gift offers being given by the bank. It warns that criminals are using these fake offers to trap customers and dupe them of their money.

6. Cyber criminals wait for customers to make mistake

Customers are advised not to trust these fake callers or forwarded messages on WhatsApp. The fraudsters look for customers to make one mistake that can be exploited by them.

7. SBI nor any of its officials ever asks customers for details of their bank accounts or personal information

Readers must note that SBI never calls its users to ask for personal details or bank account specific details via email/SMS/Call/WhatsApp calls.
